What is Your Why?

I want to touch on the mindset of reaching your goals. Losing weight is as much mental as it is physical. If your mind is not in the right place you will fail. As I mentioned in a previous post, you have to want to change bad. You have to want to change so badly that nothing will stand in your way. Part of having that drive is having a “why”. What is your reason for wanting to do this? And it has to be a powerful reason. It needs to be something that stirs up an emotion inside you when you think of it. Your “why” is going to push you when you can’t push yourself. When you are doing your workouts and you don’t think you have anything left, your “why” is going to push you a little further. And that is where the change happens. Get beyond your comfort zone. Additionally, you need to live, eat, and breathe your “why”. It needs to be part of every decision you make and everything you do. Living in this mindset also has an additional benefit that it will change your mindset and outlook. Things will appear more positive. You will have a more optimistic outlook on everything.

For me I had a few different “whys”. I had always seen ads and posters about people successfully losing 40, 50, 60 lbs. I wanted to achieve that too but I wanted figured go big or go home. I set a goal to lose 100 lbs in 1 year. I wanted to achieve that and I was willing to do whatever it took to do it. Nothing was going to stop me. I also was tired of being overweight and out of shape. I wanted to change really, really badly. I was not going to allow myself to stay stuck in the same situation. I ended up crushing my goal losing 115 lbs in 1 year. If you have the right mindset anything is possible. It is up to you to accomplish it though.
